How to keep your loft space cool

First published

In summer your loft can get stifling – a problem if you’re planning to turn it into a bedroom, as hot air rises and makes the room uncomfortable.

Fans and ventilation

A fan helps keep things cooler by circulating the air. If that isn’t an option, make sure the room is well ventilated – fitting vents is a practical way to keep it comfortable.

Air conditioning

You could also use an air conditioner. A portable unit for the window can bring the temperature down without costing too much.

Insulation

Good insulation also helps keep excess heat out in summer.
